"Apprenticeship is that ancient system of equipping new and emerging learners in the fundamental principles and benchmark practices of a specific trade, profession, or tradition. It usually involves a relationship with one who through experience and expertise has mastered the trade, and who equips students to learn through personal association with and observation of the trainer's work, some accompanying individual study, alongside real-world training experience. After a period of intense relationship and training, the learner emerges as a journeyman, able to operate with excellence without supervision and, in time, able to acquire her own learners to help them attain similar mastery in the field and practice."
